Hi. I’m Angela Martin, and welcome to Number 68 Green Forest Road in Kuranda. If you have been looking for a character-filled, craftsman-built house that genuinely gives you that sense of seclusion, peace, quiet, and 5000% privacy, this property will not disappoint. It’s only ever had two owners, so it has been literally beautifully maintained and beautifully looked after from the day it was built.
Now, that concrete driveway is about 200 metres from where we’re at, so the house is at the very furthest point from the road, and we have a little gem just around there nestled in amongst five acres. Just so it feels like what you’re going to feel when you come home, we’re going to jump in the car and head up.
Don’t forget to subscribe to my YouTube channel, so you can find a bit more fantastic lifestyle properties just like this one. We’re going to head up to your beautiful Kuranda new home. Now, the little gem I spoke about? Just in there. We’ll come back and have a look at that when we’re done.
The first thing we’re going to notice is the concrete driveway, absolutely our best friend in the wet tropics. I mentioned 200 metres—we can see no one. Absolutely stunning. We’ve got beautiful trees with sparkly light today.
The concrete ends here, and we have just a little seasonal creek that goes off to the right and off to the left—it’s down over there. This is pretty much the left-hand side of the boundary. You can see it’s an easy drive—beautiful, long, just wow. Special. Look at this tree. Look at this tree! I have to show you this massive, beautiful big tree there, and look at the sun on that one. I don’t know the name of it—Angela, what’s the name of that tree? But it is unbelievably gorgeous. My goodness, I could get out and just hug that.
We’ve got beautiful palms here. This part of the property is bright, open, and sunny. We’re surrounded by, like I said, about five acres of natural forest. There’s beautiful lawn down there—we’ll have a look—some banana trees on the other side. This is just a sneak peek of the house with the balcony, and look at the beautiful bamboo.
Oops! This is saying I’m going to bang into something, but hopefully, I’m not. Home we are. Now, I mentioned the sense of seclusion. Wow. Have we got a sense of seclusion or what? This is just unbelievably fantastic.
Just pop that over here—unbelievably brilliant. Oops, my little mic’s just fallen off. This just feels magical. We have just come up that great big, long driveway, and we are in beautiful sparkly sunshine. There is no one looking in. You can’t hear anything other than the birds and the butterflies, and of course, you’re going to see the wallabies.
We’ve got plenty of sheds—we’ll have a look at those in a minute, but let’s come straight into the house. There’s another big garage there, a big double garage here, and potting sheds there—it’s all very exciting!
The house, like I said, craftsman-built, two owners, and it is just unbelievably welcoming. We’ve got bricks for the fireplace—little spoiler there—and just really, really welcoming. Totally, totally welcoming. Even the little birdies are welcoming us.
Now, we’re going to have a look inside. That’s a toilet. We’re going to have a look in there—that’s a three-bay. But a beautiful undercover relaxation spot just to begin with.
The first thing you’re actually going to notice—well, maybe it’s not the first thing you’ve noticed—but this here is a little barn door. Absolutely marvellous. So, you could be inside—this is the kitchen here—and it’s half open, half closed. Just terrific. Farmhouse living at its absolute best.
Now, the thing that you’re probably thinking—is this real? In the kitchen, it is very, very, very unusual now to find a property that has solid granite bench tops. These are 100% solid granite. Not pretend granite, not Caesarstone, but proper, proper granite all the way along there.
I mentioned craftsmanship. The original owner spent time, effort, energy, and an awful lot of love in the designing, preparation, and building of this home. Even the woods, as we’ll see as we go through—just beautiful, exotic hardwoods.
Whilst we’re in the kitchen, we’ve got a little bit of space here for a microwave. We’ve got NBN, so we’re fully internet-connected. Then we have this great little pantry in here—plenty of room for all your bits and bobs.
We’ve got a great big cooking machine—gas cooker, gas cooktop, gas oven, and of course, a range hood. Now, this is just beyond magic. Upstairs, there’s a mezzanine, which we will of course have a look at, but a fireplace—I’ll bet you have never seen a fireplace this big.
Apparently, the story has it that at the time this property was built, this was—and probably arguably still is—one of the largest fireplaces in the whole of Kuranda. It’s a functional fireplace—the bricks are absolutely fantastic. They came from a local brick factory, and you could almost—I’m not going to—but you could almost sit on there. Big disclaimer: don’t go sitting in an open fireplace.
It’s just a magnificent talking piece. We’ve got these tiles here. It’s just organic. Kuranda, of course, this is not laminated—it’s genuine big bits of wood, probably out of the rainforest here. Beautiful rainforest timbers, gorgeous mixed hardwoods. You just cannot buy properties, and you cannot buy wood, like this anymore.
There are two living areas—brilliant. We’ve got the garden views inside and out. Again, we have got magic—just absolutely magic hardwood. The great thing about this property is that you can actually see the underside of the home. Then, of course, you can see upstairs as well because it’s all exposed—easy to maintain.
The windows are fantastic—beautiful hardwood, character-filledwindows. You wouldn’t expect to have a toilet just for extra convenience in your living area, which means you don’t have to trek all the way upstairs to the bathroom or outside where there’s another toilet.
This is a big loo. We’ve got our vanity, our toilet, and a nice big cupboard in there. The cupboard can be taken out if you want to; it’s not fitted, so that would give a little more space—but super-duper convenient.
We’re just going to take a breath in, look out on the balcony, and then head upstairs.
The balcony is wonderful—I mean wonderful—overlooking the most amazing rainforest. Orientation-wise, that’s the driveway coming up there. We looked over to the big grassed area down there. You could trim some of those little trees if you wanted more sun to come into the property, but it just stands beautifully amongst this stunning landscape.
This balcony also has a little bit more space—you can walk around. It takes us to the private entrance where we came in. That’s my car just at the top, and there are little stairs going down to the patio area where we saw chairs. I think there were even fresh pawpaws on the table, probably from the pawpaw plants.
Oh wow—look at this! That’s amazing. Where else in Far North Queensland’s amazing wet tropics are you going to find this? You’re just not. We’ve got windows and doors everywhere.
Just look in here—it’s absolutely glorious. It’s got so much character—Kuranda organicness and yumminess. It’s unbelievable!
This takes us back to the kitchen. We’ve got our two doors that can open up; only one’s open now. We’ve also got little cupboards in here—plenty big enough for extra storage items like your vacuum cleaner and other essentials.
So, we head upstairs. The chunkiness—you’re going to notice the chunkiness of everything in this property—is amazing.
Look at this here. I know this becomes just a little bit… ‘Angela, you’ve gone on about wood’. Well, it’s really important because this is not just knocked together. It’s not a generic, Bunnings-type job with sleepers on the floor. These are genuine, nice, two-inch thick pieces of beautiful timber.
We’re going to head up there, and I’ll meet you at the top of the stairs.
Upstairs, we’ve got three bedrooms and a bathroom—or two bedrooms and whatever you’d like this open area to be. Currently, it’s obviously a bedroom, but oh my goodness, where else will you find this?
It’s beautiful—I love every single bit of it. Old stained glass—it adds warmth and character to the whole area. We’ve got nice big high ceilings, and again, just keeping with my rave about wood—it’s just a beautiful wooden home.
It’s not a pole home, but it has all the elements of a pole home with low maintenance. There are windows out here and out to the garden—looks like maple! Absolutely gorgeous.
These are the bricks we spoke about earlier at the fireplace. When we first came in, you’d have seen a brick wall that continues through, and of course, it’s very thick. Beautiful, big bedroom—it’s massive! It’s almost six metres wide and probably about the same length.
You don’t want me measuring it all, but I’ll estimate one, two, three, four, five, six. Big ceilings. Fans, air conditioning—fantastically convenient. There’s a walk-in robe—plenty of space.
There’s space on the other side—you could even turn this into an en suite if you wanted to, though you don’t need to. Then, we’ve got another bedroom—big again—with built-in robes.
Careful, Angela! Plenty of cupboard space. There’s another spot for a desk or television, or you could continue to build something in. Again, there are garden views and air conditioning.
The bathroom is original but immaculate. Immaculate, and I mean it! Regular shower, fantastic bath, vanity without cracks—totally serviceable. Fabulous loo, and, of course, that natural light streaming through. Just stunning.
We walk back and look down—what a view. It’s sensational. We’ll head downstairs and take a look at the two little buildings outside. This is unbelievably gorgeous—hopefully, you’re getting a sense of how yummy and organic this property truly is.
Outside laundry—fantastic for the Wet Tropics. Big and functional. Room for dryer or washing machine, stainless steel sink. There’s a second bathroom—you could easily add a toilet if you wanted.
There’s a toilet and a shower, and again, the brickwork is absolutely brilliant—solid and organic. Earthy and fantastic. Loving it!
The laundry area has a hanging space outside. While we’re here—side of the house, gas bottles for the stove. Gorgeous fan palms—probably 50 or 60 years old at least.
Under the house, you’ll find plenty of areas open and sunny—a trampoline or a play space would work beautifully. Bananas—yes, I spotted bananas earlier. Over here are some hanging off the trees. I won’t pick one—they aren’t ready. But there you go!
When you move in, amazing bananas will be waiting for you. Little pathways spread all over. Under the house—that’s where the balcony and bedrooms are.
There’s a birdbath among beautiful bromeliads—nature at its absolute best. Low-maintenance rainforest living with sparkling magic. Bird calls, butterflies, and even wallabies. We’ll head back to the front for a baby surprise along the pathway leading to a small historic gem—a charming cottage-style addition, perfect for an artist studio.
More fruit trees abound—pawpaw, bananas, lemons—and sheds galore! We’ve toured the big shed area—six-metre by six-metre spaces for all sorts of hobbies, storage, vehicles, trailers.
And finally, wrapping up Number 68 Green Forest Road. Organic, peaceful, craftsman-built, secluded living among sparkly wildlife and lush beauty!
