Summary of Transcript:

Hi, I’m Angela Martin, and welcome to Number 21 Scrub Street in Kuranda. You’re not going to believe how much information there is to share about this gorgeous Queenslander. Absolutely stunning and historic, this property is beautifully nestled on about a quarter of an acre of lush gardens. The garden features fruit trees, veggie beds, relaxation areas, and provides an overall sense of tranquillity.

This property, situated on Scrub Street (a no-through-road), is quiet, spacious, and an absolute sanctuary. Let’s go in and take a look. You’re seriously going to fall in love with it. But remember, as always, subscribe to my YouTube channel or check out my ‘Coming Soon’ properties so you can find out before anyone else does. Let’s go in – it’s fabulous.

The garden is beautiful as you approach the driveway. I did mention it’s completely private and incredibly peaceful. It truly feels like a sanctuary. If you’re sitting on your balcony here, you’ll be looking out at banana trees and lush green forest. Absolutely gorgeous. Take a moment – just listen. You can hear absolutely nothing except the serene sounds of nature.

Now, cute, gorgeous, and perhaps a little bit quirky, this is simply a fabulous Queenslander. Welcome to your new oasis. I love the colours – neutral and incredibly calming. When you walk into this space, there’s an atmosphere that’s hard to describe. It just feels serene.

The character is undeniable. All Queenslanders are filled with the joy, love, and energy of those who’ve lived in them and added their own special little touches over the years. We’ve got character features everywhere, including the VJ walls – that stands for vertical joists, making this home wonderfully strong. Even the ceiling adds to the charm – it’s timeless. And the floor? Wow. It’s a combination of mixed rainforest hardwood. I simply adore the light: black bean wood, rich in tone and energy. It’s absolutely fabulous.

Moving through, there’s a little office nook, which I love. You could easily use it as another small room. It even has a little step-up area, likely part of the original balcony. Look at those glass louvres! Outside, there are beautiful red tropical plants. There are also water tanks and blue-tiled light in some of the other rooms, which adds so much character.

This space truly has an amazing sense of calm. I can’t emphasise enough how beautifully this property feels – it simply has soul. From the main living area, we head to the three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Each room is as charming and unique as the last.

Here’s one of the bedrooms. Just gorgeous. If you love Queenslanders, you’ll fall in love with the personality of this home. There are blue stained-glass windows, repurposed from another Queenslander, reinforcing the sense of connection and history. The high ceilings make this house so airy and bright. There are even unique little touches everywhere, including cubby storage spaces. This house rewards exploration.

Now, about the history. This home began life as a worker’s cottage in Kuranda, built for those working on the hydroelectric station. Later, it became the post office in Myola. And finally, it settled here on Scrub Street, lovingly enhanced by its owners over the years. It really gives the house a unique charm. The timber in the roof is bolted, not nailed, and all the hardwood – notably silky oak – is outstandingly solid and valuable.

Next, let’s explore the kitchen. Organic and in keeping with the home, it radiates warmth. The arches, the colours, the aesthetics – everything is authentically Queenslander. We’ve got a stainless steel sink, tiled benchtops, and open shelving. The butcher’s block is crafted from mango wood, likely sourced locally. It extends outside to the patio, where even the pumpkins are from the garden. There’s such an abundance grown right here – it’s clear this house is a home for sustainable living.

The bathroom is private and feels like an extension of the natural surroundings. Traditional Queenslander windows bring in plenty of light. There’s an organic benchtop and fittings that perfectly suit the home’s personality. It’s a perfect spot to unwind.

Heading back to the house, let’s check out the en suite. Another highlight – a handmade basin created by a potter. This unique touch adds an authentic, artistic element. The VJ walls of the en suite, high ceilings, and characterful windows all make it a perfect space.

The final bedroom is just as lovely as the rest. Spacious and filled with natural light, it’s yet another inviting corner of the home. Again, the ventilation and fresh air are quintessential for living in the tropics.

Now to the entertaining patio. Step outside through the French doors to what will likely be one of your favourite spots in the house. Steel posts and a sturdy frame make this expansive area wonderfully usable. Whether it’s meals or relaxation, this patio is simply perfect. Plus, those pumpkins and fresh pawpaw from the garden add a delightful touch.

There’s also an outdoor laundry area, washing lines, and, believe it or not, passionfruit vines loaded with fruit, bananas, and more waiting for you in the garden. The garden is a tropical paradise, filled with butterflies, birdsong, pawpaw, star apple, ginger, turmeric, and even a little treehouse for the lychee tree. Rock walls serve as an enchanting frame for veggie beds alongside the productive organic food garden – complete with tomatoes, pumpkins, and fresh herbs like basil and mint.

Under the house, there’s a fantastic space that could be a workshop, garage, or whatever you need it to be. There’s incredible potential here, with steel posts throughout and silky oak framing adding longevity and beauty. It’s highly functional and full of opportunities.

Standing on this beautiful deck, you can fully appreciate the soul of this home. I truly hope you’ve enjoyed this tour of Number 21 Scrub Street, Kuranda. Why should you buy this property? It’s personal. This home has heart, soul, and energy. It’s not modern, but it’s brimming with love, history, and character.

With proximity to Steiner School, Kuranda State School, and local amenities, it has everything for a family or anyone looking to embrace a sanctuary-like lifestyle. The spacious garden is a dream with its abundance of produce, and the natural setting is unparalleled. Just add in the vibrant Kuranda community, the charm of the village with its shops and IGA, and the beauty of living a sustainable life.
